Halloween Readings
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Be transported to colonial New York through the words of Washington Irving’s spine-tingling tale. Follow Connecticut school teacher Ichabod Crane as he becomes the target of a ghostly apparition: the famed Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. As the night darkens, and hoofbeats approach, feel the suspense build as fear and folktale blend in this perennial Halloween favorite.
An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe
Take your pick of stories from the master of suspense. Hear the tale of a disturbed narrator obsessed with an old man’s eye in The Tell-Tale Heart; attend an ill-fated revelry in The Masque of the Red Death; or listen as a calculating and vengeful man seeks retribution in The Cask of Amontillado. The evening will always feature a reading of Poe’s masterpiece of despair and madness, The Raven.
Two Tales of Victorian Terror
The evening begins with the tale of a haunted railway man in 19th century England, in Charles Dickens’ short story The Signal Man, and ends with the frightening, “Log of the Demeter” from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. From a slow burn to sharp, maddening terror, these readings are the modern equivalent of sitting around a fire and listening to frightening stories.
